Ethan Woods (b.1995) is an Austin-based artist. His paintings are described as whimsical and hinting of parallel, dreamlike worlds. Ambiguous perspectives, weightlessness, autonomy of color - to display a harmonious accord rather than merely describe an object. Woods invites the viewer into a world of harmony in which the elements reject the mandate of 'either/or' by demonstrating a world of enhanced possibility, a world of 'both/and'; a world of possibility, where all the relevant elements are included in an argument or composition, including the possibility that a work of art has feelings. In the words of Paul Klee, "The paintings look at us," he reminds his paintings when he is hanging a show, that they will be able to see who comes to see them.
