Jonathan Davenport

Jon Davenport’s artistic journey began in Ipswich, UK, where he was recognized early for his raw talent. His early forays into digital art led to his work being published in one of the first computer art magazines, signaling his entry into a world that would later become foundational to his practice. Despite a detour through academia, where he earned a biology degree from Brunel University, his passion for the visual arts persisted. It was during his tenure at Archant newspaper group in Ipswich that Davenport’s natural aptitude for design flourished. Self-taught in Photoshop and graphic design, he quickly progressed to lead key creative projects, honing the skills that would later influence his fine art.
The establishment of his own design agency in London marked a pivotal moment in his career. His work with prestigious clients like Nike and Virgin garnered acclaim from figures such as Richard Branson and Tony Blair. Yet, it was his move to the United States and his marriage to Atlanta-based artist Christy Kinard that sparked a creative renaissance. With a renewed focus on the tactile and the painterly, Davenport began exploring the intersections of photography, collage, and painting, creating works that transcend categorization, offering instead a meditative exploration of texture, time, and cultural symbolism.
